INTERVIEW BY LEWIS MORLEY
Hey Oly! Thanks for taking the time to talk with us today
Who is Oly Sherman? How would you describe him to the world?
Tricky question to answer I guess, especially since musically, I’ve developed and changed a lot of things during the past few years. I guess I’m a pretty easy going guy, love hanging out with friends, love music and making music. I thought I wanted to become a guitarist and actually had no intention of singing to begin with.
What have you been up to over these last few months? How have you been handling these few months?
I guess the start of Iso was quite tough for me to deal with, as most of my tour was cancelled. I felt like it put a huge dent in my momentum. However that quickly diminished, as I’ve written more music than I ever have. I’ve also got really into cooking, seeing friends and reading. All stuff that helps the creative mind in a way.
What inspires you when you’re writing?
Writing for me really depends on my mood, and what’s been happening to me emotionally within the past weeks prior. I’ll write when I feel motivated, and I’ll try to portray feelings as if they were being read out of a book. That’s how I like listening to music, so I guess it’s only natural that I’ve somewhat emulated the process.
How do you feel when you’re creating music?
When I started, as with most musicians, creating music comes from pure joy and passion, rather than seeking legitimacy. I feel vulnerable yet special in a weird kind of way. I guess it’s because of how honest I like to make most of my music.
If you had to distil your message into a few words, what are you trying to say? What do you want to convey?
I just try to convey the physical feeling you get when you hear/see music that you like. Those goosebump kind of feels. If I can do that to at least a few people, I feel like I’m happy with that message.
What have you got on the horizon?
I’ve just started in my new, bigger project. Experimenting with a lot of new sounds and people! Still unknown how it’s going to look yet.
And to Temporary Dreamer’s signature question- If you could describe your latest track ‘Homebody’ with a colour, what would it be and why?
Definitely green. For most reasons I can’t really put into words other than I’ve been vibing it a lot atm, and it was a big influence in the songs photo shoots 🙂
