SINGLE REVIEW // ‘Midnight’ – San Mei

WORDS BY TARA CAMPBELL

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard of San Mei (Pronounced San Mae).

Gold Coast Singer/ Songwriter San Mei, (Emily Hamilton) is back at it again with a  vulnerable new track- Midnight. From the beginning of the track, you’re sure to notice a slight difference in the sound of Midnight, however, it’s certain that you will take to it fondly.

A tribute to the feeling of losing someone, San Mei’s self-produced track emphasises  universal feeling- and perfectly transports your emotions to that exact feeling. From the unique and emotional vocals, to the accompaniment that fits perfectly with the distinctive ‘San Mei Sound’, this is a track you’ll fall in love from the first play. The silence before the repeat of Midnight gives you enough time to swallow the lump in your throat before replaying from the beginning.

This is a track that the entire San Mei team should be incredibly proud; a dream-pop anthem that meets emotion and still manages to have a catchy melody. It will strike a special chord with anyone who had experienced loss and the emotions that come with this. San Mei is back at it again, and I can’t wait to see what she has in store next.
