SINGLE REVIEW // ‘Into the Sun’ – Beyond the Willows (ft Ruby Phillips)

WORDS BY ISABELLA ROSS

Cronulla’s Beyond the Willows are back with the haunting title track for their upcoming LP set to release later this month. Into the Sun is a collaborative project with Ruby Phillips (from Ruby Fields) on lead guitar and vocals paying tribute to Connor, a friend of theirs that passed tragically three years ago.

This track is filled with raw emotion, a mix of acoustic guitars and a simple hook. Stripped back to what feels like a jam session, Beyond the Willows have welcomed us into their hearts.

Sam from Beyond the Willows has said Into the Sun is a reminder that Connor is “guiding us when we get lost”. Connor meant a lot to both Ruby and Sam, which is evident throughout this track. The video for Into the Sun adds another layer of intimacy to their tribute, bringing a familiar atmosphere to their story. Throughout the video the word forever is projected across various scenes, reminding viewers of the space between temporary dreams and permeant memories.

Into the Sun is available for streaming now.
